Call #6

11/22/2023

Today we went through questions that coaching clients have shared with me post-interview that they were asked.

Tell us about a time you were working with a team and there was a disagreement. What role did you play?

Tell us about how you worked on a diverse team.

Tell us about a time you provided care for a patient and the outcome was not what you would have liked.

Tell us about a time you took care of a patient and you didn't like the care you delivered.

If you were hired for the new graduate program, at the end of the year, what would you say is the thing that helped you succeed?

Tell us about a time you collaborated with a patient's family to improve the patient's care.

You had an order for ceftriaxone for a patient with sepsis. You hung the bag and a while later realized that you had hung it for the wrong patient. What would you do?

Prioritization question (phone call from family, patient complaining of pain, physician asking for status of the patient, and patient calling from the bathroom).

Talk about a time you had a safety concern and what happened in that scenario

What does cultural sensitivity mean to you?

What makes you stand out as a candidate?

How do you de-stress?

Tell me about a time you experienced failure?

Tell me about a time you had to go through policy change?

Tell me about a time you encountered a patient from a different background?

Tell me about a time you did something out of the box to solve a problem in your nursing career?

What type of patient care can we expect from you?

Talk through tell me about yourself + elevator pitch. Discuss weaknesses. Answer questions.

Here are some tips for structuring your elevator pitch:

I think I'd be a great fit for this position because....

  • Reiterate any relevant experience if applicable "I had the opportunity to do my clinical rotation here and had a great experience...I know I'd be able to contribute to the great culture that's been established" OR "Working in this specialty during my preceptorship really solidified my decision to begin my nursing career here and my passion for this patient population"
  • Briefly reiterate any strengths you've already shared, and add anything else you didn't get the chance to "As a shared earlier I'm a great team player, strong communicator, and connect well with patients. I would also add that.....
  • Share what you'd contribute to the team You can count on me to provide compassionate, safe patient care. I also am someone who likes being involved and engaged beyond working my shifts. I was interested to hear you mention your unit committees, because I'd be very interested in participating in those groups [a good place to interject something you learned]
  •  Thank them again for the opportunity Thanks again for taking the time to interview me and consider me for the position. I appreciate your consideration and welcome any other questions.
